The evidence in this this case was entirely circumstantial, and not particularly convincing at that. It's a frightening thing to live in a society where one is guilty until proven innocent, and then once essentially proven innocent, still found guilty. All because family, friends and jurors would rather have an innocent individual convicted than face the fact that there are uncertainties. Convicting a person for the sake of a conviction is hardly justice. Juries should be held accountable for wrongful convictions
What's even more frightening, however, is people who know nothing of the evidence and base their opinions on their feelings and emotions. Jody Byrd was arrested and tried for murder based on EVIDENCE.
Beyond that, dismissing "circumstantial" evidence is a dangerous thing--do you have to witness the rain at night to know, when you wake up in the morning and all of the ground is wet outside, that it rained while you were asleep? If so, then you clearly don't understand inductive logic and you're being highly unreasonable...which is why the standard to overcome in this type of case is "reasonable doubt."
The truth, though, is that there was always overwhelming evidence that Jody Byrd was responsible for the murder of his wife. None of that evidence was shared in the Dateline story, but it was shared with the jurors...and they found him guilty.
