She was a young wife, a friend, a daughter, an ordinary woman, just like so many people you may know, but on February 25, 1999, Desta Dodson Byrd was found lying in her front yard, dead, the result of a single gunshot wound above her left ear.
That was over ten years ago.
Since then, her murder has garnered very little media attention.
There was a strong suspect in this case from the very beginning and it took until May, 2011 before there was an arrest in the case.
So that brings us to who we are.
We are the friends, family, and loved ones of Desta. More importantly, we're the ones who refuse to allow her to be forgotten. We're the ones who, more than a decade after her murder, not only believe it is possible, but insist that the justice system work for Desta. We're also the ones who need your help because, at the very least, we think you're one of us too: ordinary people who think the justice system should work to serve the people.
